News from Castle Glen Vineyard
2010 Vintage is currently on track. The grapes that were frosted have reshot and small bunches are forming. We missed the hail storms that pelted the south side of town, destroying crops. Fingers crossed all is looking good - though we have a long way to go before vintage.
Our graftings are shooting and growing like triffids. Glen our new vineyard trainee is flat out desuckering and training the vines on to the wires.
Wines Released this month:
Pink Chardonnay - a second bottling of this summer favourite is available - light and fruity - great with a salad or seafood.
2009 Late Pick Chardonnay Semillon is also available - for those that love their wines sweet - dessert sweet - you will love this.
2009 Montepulciano, one of our Strange Wines, is hitting the shelves this week - be quick to secure yourself a bottle or carton. At a reasonable $25.00 per bottle this beautiful wine is a absolute steal.
1999 Shiraz Merlot -
Limited Edition - we have produced only
150 bottles of this fabulous wine aged in American Oak. At $25.00 per bottle you will need to secure yours fast!
Our new Berry Patch is coming along well. We hope to be picking our first Raspberries, Loganberries, Youngberries and Marionberries this coming season. Like the young graftings, these berries are currently being trained on to the wires.
For lovers of all things mango we have mangoes currently on their way from Mareeba. These are tree ripened mangoes selectively picked for Castle Glen. Tree ripened and or vine ripened fruit is essential for liqueur making. We will let you know when the Mango Wine, Liqueur, Jam and Mango in Port etc hit the shelves.
Customers have been loving the Passionfruit Liqueur with pulp and all. These passionfruit (deep purple) have been sourced from the Tweed Valley. Our unique method of manufacturing retains the natural colour and flavour of the passionfruit - come to the Castle this Christmas to secure yourself a bottle.
Beer sales are going very well with the first beers sold out in weeks, particularly the Chocolate Beer. We are flat out keeping up production and ageing the beers before release. It is an interesting time for us here at Castle Glen listening to what our loyal customers like and coming up with beers that we feel will suit their taste. Feedback is focused very much around dark ales, so we have made an English Ale and Munich Ale which have been well received whilst keeping the Lager, Wheat and Pilsner Beers going. And of course everyones favourite, Sparkling Ginger Brew, is still shining.
May your Christmas Cheer be all the more merry with Castle Glen Wines, Ports and Liqueurs.
Merry Christmas from all of us at Castle Glen Australia.
Cheers (and bottoms up),
Cedric and Carol-Anne Millar
