What Makes a Truly Great Fortified Wine or Port?

Castle Glen’s Liqueur Maker, Wine Maker and Founder, Cedric Millar believes that a Truly Great Fortified Wine or Port is ‘Fit for A King’! How do you create a Truly Great Fortified Wine or Port? It comes from treating the grapes like ‘Royalty’. Being of service to the grapes in every way and at every stage of production, letting the grapes proclaim their own beauty to the world. Cedric believes in working with the grapes by treating them with the utmost respect.

Castle Glen’s wine grapes are not sprayed with harmful pesticides, nor are they fed with artificial fertilisers. Our healthy, well-established grape vines are carefully tended, preened and pruned, well-fed and nourished with the best natural traditional methods available, ensuring a bountiful harvest.

At harvest time, our precious grapes are carefully hand-picked, no rough handling for them! Definitely no nasty mechanical harvesters are anywhere to be seen. The grapes are then dutifully transported to have all their sweet juices extracted from them. With dignity of course!

The grapes are squeezed with the utmost tender loving care, using our special unique processes. These beautiful grape juices are then matured in the finest American Oak Barrels and are let to rest, in order to rise to the occasion, to become what we believe to be some of the finest fortified wines available in Australia. Our wines are rich and lively both in taste and appearance. There are no nasty side-affects, like head-aches or hangovers created by added chemicals and preservatives.

So if you have not have had the pleasure of tasting Castle Glen Vineyard’s ‘Royalty’, our fantastic Fortified Wines - Ports. Have a taste, give them a try. We are absolutely sure you will become one of Castle Glen Wines very willing subjects. They truly are pleasure ‘Divine’ right to the last drop!

Millar Family Crest The Millar Family Our Heritage, Our History

The Millar Family originates from areas in England, Scotland and Ireland. The first people to use the name Millar were a family who live in the Scottish/English Borderlands.

In 13th Century Britain after the death by poisoning of a prominent Courtier, King Alexander III held an inquest and established that the King's miller had an important position of trust. The food or drink of important people, especially Royalty was to only be entrusted to those who were truly loyal. The King's miller, his baker and his brewer were trusted Courtiers and often gifted with extensive lands to ensure their loyalty.
